Answer engine optimisation (also called generative engine optimisation) is the work of getting AI assistants to mention and recommend you when someone asks a question in your category. It is to ChatGPT and Perplexity what SEO is to Google's blue links.
How is this different from an SEO tool?
SEO tools track where your pages rank in a list of links. An AI answer has no list of links to rank in: it names a few businesses and moves on. AnswerRank records whether you are named, how high, who is named instead and which websites the answer leaned on.
Good SEO helps, because many engines search the web before they answer. It is not the whole story.
Does the Chrome extension read my chats?
